This summer, after one of the few permits from the City of Brussels was refused for our Women Do It Better event at Piknik Elektronik Poelaert (granted instead to ticketed and closed events), we decided to pause Piknik Elektronik. We took the time to better understand what’s happening around our public spaces and to prepare, with all of you, a lasting movement for the future of our city.
But nothing stopped! On the contrary, exciting new projects emerged:
Alongside many ongoing initiatives, three editions of Protest Elektronik Poelaert took place. Each time, we gathered at Place Poelaert for four hours of music, discussion, and learning, sharing a drink, dancing to our DJs’ sets broadcast live on Radio Vibration (FM and online) https://vibration.fm and in person. These moments created enriching encounters, exchange of information, and strong bonds. https://www.piknikelektronik.com/alert
Collective creations that strengthen our movement and our vision for public spaces accessible to everyone. After 18 years of organizing a free, independent festival without barriers or advertising, Piknik Elektronik still has plenty in store for the future.
And now, two essential events are coming up:
Saturday, August 30 – Piknik Elektronik at Place Marie Janson [Parvis de Saint-Gilles] A true festive, friendly, and memorable moment in a neighborhood we love, made possible thanks to the support of the Commune of Saint-Gilles. Join us from 1 PM to picnic, dance, and share time together until 10 PM!
Sunday, September 14 – Protest Elektronik Poelaert Because we continue to claim our historic spaces, our city, and our rights, for as long as necessary, summer or winter.

A heartfelt thanks to the Commune of Saint-Gilles and to all the people, associations, and elected officials who quietly stand with us.
